Winnings are divided by the numbers purchased. For example, we sell 10,000 numbers which will be the max in a lotto pool, the current Megamillions $850,000,000 prize will give each number a value of $85,000. THUS, if you buy 2 numbers for the month $32, your share would be $170,000. If you buy 10 numbers $160 for the month, your share is $850,000, etc.
Now, IF less numbers are sold, you get more money. For example, if only 5,000 numbers are sold and won the $850,000,000 prize, each number will be valued at $170,000. Thus, 10 numbers would be $1.7M payout to you.
